Australia is situated in the Southern hemisphere.So, when it's winter in France, it's summer in Australia !

The capital  city of Australia is Canberra.
Sidney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide and Newcastle are the largest cities.
Australia has a population about twenty million people.
This country is called « The Land Down Under », because it is situated below the equator.
There is the British flag on the upper left corner of the Australian flag to remember the ties which link G. Band Australia. In fact, Australia used to be the place where english prisoners were sent in the 18° century.
The five stars represent the Southern cross constallation, which is a major navigational constellation in the Southern Hemisphere ; because Australia is the only place where you can observe it.
The Commonwealth star symbolize the original the original States of Australia (at the number of 7).


The currency in « The Land Down Under » is the Australian dollar.
The Aborigines are the first Australians.

The black of the Aboriginal flag represents the Aboriginal people.
The red represents the earth and their spiritual relationship to the land.
The yellow represents the sun, the giver of life.
The « Didgeridoo » is a long wooden flute.


New South Wales. Sydney is located on Australia's south-east coast of the Tasman Sea.
The boomerang was used for hunting.
The Aboriginal name of Ayers Rock is « Uluru », and it's important for the Aborigines because  for them, it's a sacred mountain.
The Outback is the midle part of Australia.
In the Outback, there are some sheeps, cattle ranches, and very few inhabitants

With an approximate population of 4.5 million in the Sydney metropolitan area the city is the largest in Oceania.
Inhabitants of Sydney are called Sydneysiders, comprising a cosmopolitan and international population of people from numerous places around the world.


One of Australia's most remarkable natural gifts, the Great Barrier Reef is blessed with the breathtaking beauty of the world's largest coral reef. The reef contains an abundance of marine life and comprises of over 3000 individual reef systems and coral cays and literally hundreds of picturesque tropical islands with some of the worlds most beautiful sun-soaked, golden beaches.


Well, as conclusion, we can say that Australia people are very sporty in general : in fact, they usually practice rugby of course, with the team of « The Wallabies », but also cricket (more than in France), soccer boomerang or Australian Rules Football in particular.
