·         Quotes
“The desire for friendship comes quickly. Friendship does not” Aristotle

" Friendship is unnecessary, like philosophy, like art... It has no survival value; rather is one of those things that give value to survival. " C. S. Lewis

" Anybody can sympathise with the sufferings of a friend, but it requires a very fine nature to sympathise with a friend's success. " Oscar Wilde

What is a friend on Facebook ?

·         An extract of text on website msnbc :

·         Debate
This text is an explication of a man of expression “We’re Facebook Friends.” What is your own explication about this expression ? Do you think is important having a lot of friends on Facebook and why ? But what is the problem to having lots friends on Facebook ?

This phrase connotes a lesser friendship than a traditional friend. It could mean “you’re a businessperson I really like and I’m willing to let you see some of my personal life or it could mean that you’re someone from my past who somehow tracked me down,” explains Andy Smith, co-author of The Dragonfly Effect. “Facebook has fundamentally changed what we define a friend and what we define being in touch as.” After all, “it makes staying in touch with people from your past dead simple.... It’s very easy for you to imagine that there are 1,000 people in your life that you’ve gone to school with, that you’ve worked with, or whatever, who might ‘friend’ you.” But you can’t maintain 1,000 friendships in a normal sense, so new norms develop.

UNIT JAPAN
Today, I'm going to talk about Japan . Everybody knows that Japan have a lot of problems because they have tsunamis, earthquakes, it’s very dangerous. It's interesting, so that's why I want to talk about it. The earthquakes have impacts on the marine environment on account of radioactive waste. We have to help them!

UNIT : MONEY
I chose money as a subject for a new unit because it’s an important aspect of our everyday life that we cannot deny. Some people live for it and are obsessed by the idea of earn more and more money. I have also chosen this topic because it tackles a wide range of problems such as the differences between the poor and the rich or the attitudes of rich people.
TEXTS
The first text I chose is an article from the Times Magazine describing the differences between the rich and the poor. The article is ten pages long so it may be a better idea to take just the beginning.
The second text recounts the life of the untouchable class in India.
PICTURES
I have found two caricatures: the top one denouncing rich people’s behavior regarding sharing. The second one emphasizes on the growing differences between rich people and poor people.

POSSIBLE DISCUSSIONS
·         Does money make happiness? ( I know it’s not really original but it                                                                                                              can still be interesting)

·         Can we consider money as an energy?

UNIT: TIM BURTON

We want to talk about Tim Burton because he is an original movie director. In fact he has nothing in commun with the others and all of his differences appear in his movies.
He creates new universes with caracters who are very different from the caracters who can be met in others movies.
His stories introduce death but approached with colors, joy, and relativism.
Furthermore he isn’t a pretentious man and his behavior looks different from the one of the other american movie director’s.
One of his particularity is that he has favorite actors and wants to work primarily with them. ( Johnny Depp for example.)

Video:

-  the first «Short Film» made by Tim Burton in 1982.

The story of Vincent in this little movie could be related with the childhood of Tim Burton. In fact, «Vincent Price» is Tim Burton’s favorite actor, and « Edgar Allan Poe» is his favorite author. More over the worldview of Tim Burton during his childhood is approximately the same as Vincent’s in this movie, that’s why we can think that it’s an autobiographical movie.

Biography:
«Tim Burton was raised in Burbank, California. He spent most of his childhood as a recluse, drawing cartoons and watching old movies (he was especially fond of films with Vincent Price). When he was in the ninth grade, his artistic talent was recognized by a local garbage company when he won a prize for an anti-litter poster he designed. The company placed this poster on all of their garbage trucks for a year. After graduation from high school, he attended California Institute of the Arts. Like so many others, Burton's first job was as an animator for Disney»
 Filmography:
(Batman (1989),Beetlejuice (1988),Edward aux mains d'argent (1990),or following something(Batman, le défi (1992),Mars Attacks! (1996),Sleepy Hollow - La légende du cavalier sans tête (1999), Big fish (2003) Charlie and The Chocolate Factory (2005)_, _and_Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007)) Alice and the wonder world ( 2010) .
Tim Burton is a movie director and a cartoonist too:
This is a little cartoon that introduces «Stain boy» a little hero who was created y Tim Burton.
«sometimes i know it  bothers him that he can’t
 run or swim or fly,
and because of his only
power,his dry cleaning bills’
too hight.»

«For Christmas stain boy got a new uniform.
it was clean and well pressed,
confy and warm.»

«but in a few short minutes,
(no longer than ten)
those wet, greasy stains
started forming again.»
started forming again.

UNIT RAP MUSIC
I’ve chosen the topic of “rap music” because I love music and more precisely rap music. I think music can be a way to express an idea, a conviction or a demand. It’s a kind of art too. The music is pleasant to be listening and it can remember some memories.
I)                Introduction

Tupac Amaru Shakur (June 16, 1971 – September 13, 1996), known by his stage names 2Pac and Makaveli, was an American rapper. Shakur began his career as a roadie and backup dancer for the alternative hip hop group Digital Underground.
Shakur has sold over 75 million albums worldwide, making him one of the best-selling music artists in the world. In the United States alone he has sold 37.5 million records. Rolling Stone Magazine named him the 86th Greatest Artist of All Time.
In addition to his career as a rap artist, he was also an actor. The themes of most of Tupac's songs are the violence and hardship in inner cities, racism, other social problems, and conflicts with other rappers during the East Coast – West Coast hip hop rivalry. In September 1996, Shakur was shot four times in the Las Vegas metropolitan area of Nevada. He was taken to the University Medical Center, where he died several days later of respiratory failure and cardiac arrest.
II)            Describe this picture
III)        Reading comprehension
Minority report
People was poor before the hurricane came
But the down pour poured is like when Mary J. sang
Every day it rains, so every day the pain
But ignored them, and showed em the risk was to blame
For life is a chain, cause and effected
Niggas off the chain because they affected
It's a dirty game so whatever is effective
From weed to selling kane, gotta put that in effect
Wouldn't you loot, if you didn't have the loot?
Baby needed food and you stuck on the roof
Helicopter swooped down just to get a scoop
Through his telescopic lens but he didn't scoop you
The next five days, no help ensued
They called you a refugee because you seek refuge
The commander-in-chief just flew by
Did he stop? No, he had a couple seats
